Findlane for Shopify: typo-tolerant search in your theme's search box, with product photos, filters, and sorting. No code, and your products stay in sync.

Findlane for Shopify adds Findlane search to a Shopify store without code. It keeps an index of the store's products in sync, and answers the theme's own search box. The app is coming to the Shopify App Store.

Set it up

  1. Install the app. It opens in your Shopify admin, creates a Findlane workspace for your store, and copies your active products into it. A few hundred products take seconds; large catalogs take a few minutes.
  2. Turn on search in your theme. In the app, choose Turn on in the theme editor, then Save. Or, in your admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds and switch on Findlane search.
  3. Try it. Type in your store's search box. Results appear as you type, and a misspelled word still finds the product.

The app acts as the Findlane account with your store's email address. If you already have a Findlane account with that email, the store's workspace is added to it.

On your storefront

Findlane works with your theme's existing search box, so it fits any theme without editing code.

  • As you type, a list shows the best matches with photos, brands, and prices. Arrow keys move through it, and Enter opens the selected product.
  • Pressing Enter, or choosing See all results, opens Findlane's results over the page: every match, filters by brand and product type, sorting by price, and more results as you scroll. The browser's back button closes it.

In the theme editor, the app embed has these settings:

SettingWhat it does
Accent colorThe color of matched words, links, and checkboxes. The results use your theme's font.
Products shown as you type3 to 10.
Replace the theme's search suggestionsOn: only Findlane's list shows as visitors type. Off: the theme's own suggestions also run.
Show Findlane's results when visitors searchOn: Enter opens Findlane's results. Off: Enter goes to your theme's search page.
Search box placeholderText shown in the empty search box. Leave it empty to keep your theme's.

What's synced

The app reads only products. It can't see your customers or orders.

  • Which products: active products. Drafts and archived products aren't searchable.
  • Fields: title, description, vendor, product type, tags, price range, compare-at price, whether the product is in stock, and its main image.
  • How it searches: matches in the title count most, then the vendor and product type, then tags and the description.
  • Changes: when you create, edit, or delete a product, the index follows within seconds. Sync now in the app copies the whole catalog again, and changes made during a sync are applied after it.

Analytics and settings

Open Findlane in the app signs you in to the Findlane dashboard, where you can see what shoppers search for, which searches find nothing, and tune synonyms and ranking. See Search settings for what you can change.

Plans and billing

A store starts on the Free plan. To choose a paid plan, use Plan and usage in the app: you approve the charge in Shopify, and it appears on your Shopify bill.

  • Prices are the same as on our pricing page, in US dollars every 30 days.
  • Searches answered from the cache are free. Paid plans can go over their limits: extra searches and records are charged as usage on your Shopify bill, each capped each month at the difference to the next plan's price.
  • A larger plan starts at once. A smaller plan starts at your next renewal. Choosing Free ends the subscription at once, and Shopify credits the unused time.
  • Development stores get test charges, which are never billed.

See the Terms of Use for the details.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling ends the subscription, and search stops on your storefront at once. Your theme's own search works again as before. Shopify asks Findlane to delete the store's data 48 hours later, and the workspace, its index, and its products are deleted then. Your Findlane account itself stays until you ask us to delete it.

Custom storefronts

For a headless store, or a search page of your own design, use the store's index from code: its public ID is on the index's Public access page in the dashboard. See the browser SDK.
