Findlane Search for WooCommerce: typo-tolerant product search in your store's search box and on your theme's search results page, kept in step with your products, without code.

Findlane Search for WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin that adds Findlane search to a WooCommerce store without code. Findlane reads the store's products and keeps its index in step, the store's product search box shows products as shoppers type, and the theme's own search results page lists Findlane's results.

See it working on our demo shop, woocommerce-shop.findlane.dev, a WooCommerce store with a made-up catalog of 286 products. Search it with a typo or two.

The plugin is in beta, and on its way to the WordPress.org directory. Download it here, and tell us how it goes at hello@findlane.dev.

Set it up

  1. Install the plugin: download the zip, then in WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose it, and activate it. It needs WooCommerce, WordPress 6.5 or later, and PHP 7.4 or later.
  2. Connect. Under WooCommerce → Findlane, choose Connect to Findlane. Sign in or create an account, choose a workspace and an index for the store, and whether its paid orders count, then Connect. You come back to WordPress.
  3. Wait a minute or two. Findlane reads your products; the plugin's page says how many once they're in.
  4. Try it. Type in your store's product search box. A misspelled word still finds the product.

The first import into a new index sets it up for a store: titles, SKUs, brands, categories and descriptions searched; brands, categories and the first five attributes as filters; and WooCommerce's sorts by price, newest, popularity and rating.

Without the one-click connection, for example where WordPress can't reach other sites from the browser's redirect, create a key with the Write scope on the API keys page, ideally limited to the store's index, and paste it under Use an API key instead.

Your products

  • What's indexed: published products that aren't behind a password, and that their catalog visibility doesn't hide from search. A product's variations are part of its record, so each product is one result, and the search points to the variation it matched.
  • Each product's record has its name, address, image, prices and sale price, stock, SKUs and its variations' SKUs, brand (WooCommerce's Brands, or the attribute you name), categories with their parents, tags, attributes, description, rating, sales and date added.
  • Changes as you make them reach Findlane within a minute, through WordPress's scheduled jobs.
  • A full read every day, at 03:00 UTC, catches anything a job missed, and removes products you deleted. It works as a product feed: only what changed is written, and a read that would empty the index or remove more than half its products is held, and you're emailed. Sync now on the plugin's page reads them at once.

On your storefront

  • The search box: WooCommerce's product search boxes, classic and block, show products with photos and prices as shoppers type, with searches to pick. Every search box also takes your theme's general search boxes, which many shop themes put in the header.
  • The search results page: your theme's own, with its grid, paging, sort menu and WooCommerce's filters, lists Findlane's results in Findlane's order. Filters the plugin doesn't know, such as FacetWP's, leave that search to WordPress, as do errors, slow answers and paused searches: the shop never breaks.
  • Did you mean shows above the results on classic themes.
  • Wording follows the site's language: the plugin has Icelandic, and the rest comes from WordPress's translations.

If your theme or another plugin has its own live search, such as Flatsome's, Woodmart's, FiboSearch or Advanced Woo Search, the plugin's page says so: turn it off there.

Orders and events

  • Paid orders, if you chose them: when an order is paid (processing or completed), its ID, products, quantities and prices go to Findlane for Bought together and revenue from search. Never who bought them. Cancelled and refunded orders are taken out, and connecting sends the last 60 days' orders.
  • Clicks and product views from the search box are sent only when the shopper allows statistics, through a cookie banner that supports the WP Consent API, such as Complianz, CookieYes or Cookiebot.
  • Searches carry the shopper's address and browser, so the index's rate limits and crawler rules apply to each shopper, and crawlers' searches are free.

Disconnect

Under WooCommerce → Findlane, choose Disconnect. Your store's search is WordPress's own again at once, Findlane revokes the store's key and stops reading it, and your index keeps its products. Deleting the plugin disconnects too, and removes its settings.
